Community is not just where we live—it’s where we grow, learn, and find our strength. As a Black woman and first-generation college graduate raising three daughters, I have navigated spaces where our presence was often questioned and our voices marginalized. My daughters have faced racial discrimination, enduring hurtful language and intrusive questions about their appearance. These experiences have been painful, yet they have also catalyzed my unwavering commitment to advocacy and change.
While earning both my bachelor's and master's degrees in business, I balanced the demands of academia, marriage, motherhood, and community service. My journey has been one of resilience and determination, fueled by the desire to create a more inclusive environment for all families. Over the past 19 years, I have actively volunteered within the Issaquah School District, serving in various capacities to support students and families.
In my role as a Girl Scout leader and Service Unit Manager, I have mentored other leaders and built supportive networks across our area. Since 2023, I have channeled my entrepreneurial spirit into establishing a floral business, bringing beauty and joy to our community through creative expression.
Currently, I serve as a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) representative and council member for the PTA, where I work to implement strategies that foster respect and acceptance of every student and their family, aiming to dismantle institutional racism and other structural inequities. Additionally, my involvement in Girl Scout philanthropy initiatives allows me to contribute to programs that empower young girls to become leaders in their communities.
I am committed to creating a school environment where every student feels valued, every parent feels heard, and every educator feels supported. Together, we can build a future where inclusivity is not just an ideal but a lived reality.
